About Us

Hello Parents! Ok, ok, if we are 100% honest… there is no speaking Koala who travels around the world on his boat Beluga and has all these amazing adventures. Captain Pillowbelly is a family project. It all started with Mommy (Bich Ngoc) and Daddy (Steffen) who loved travelling. In 2014 they moved to Singapore and put the traveling boots away for a while. A little later Sofie and Maisie came along and it turned out that they absolutely loved bedtime stories – especially those that Mommy and Daddy told them about their adventures. As Sofie and Maisie grew just a little older, it became a little bit boring to just hear about Mommy and Daddy traveling the world. We had to spice up the bedtime stories. At that time we were camping in Australia, visiting – well you guessed it – a Koala sanctuary. Sofie saw a cute, chunky Koala and thought that he was hiding a pillow in his belly. Maisie thought it was a very old Koala who might have been a captain. The family concluded that his name was Captain Pillowbelly.

After that all the bedtime stories had to be about Captain Pillowbelly – the old Koala, who loved eating, sleeping and traveling the world.

Month and years (thanks Corona) went by very quickly. We kept telling Captain Pillowbelly bedtime stories and it was just a family-fun thing. However, little by little we all kept wondering “What if other children would also like to hear stories about Captain Pillowbelly?” In the meantime we moved from Singapore to Switzerland. Mommy was looking for a job in Marketing and social media. Daddy was keen on teaching the girls a more entrepreneurial lifestyle. And Sofie and Maisie? Well – unleashed creative minds, eager to learn, full of questions and keen to explore the world. Puzzling all of that together and here we are – a website which still looks a bit wonky. Graphic designs which are still missing. But over 25 bedtime stories written and ready to be published.

We really hope that you will enjoy reading them as much as we enjoyed ‘putting them together’ as a family in the evenings.
