Travel the World from Home – Turkey Edition
Ahoy Crew!
This week, we dropped anchor in the magnificent country of Turkey, where East meets West, and every street holds a story. Captain PillowBelly explored one of the most fascinating cities in the world — Istanbul — and what an adventure it was!
🕌 A City on Two Continents
Did you know that Istanbul is the only city in the world that sits on TWO continents? One part lies in Europe, and the other in Asia! We crossed the famous Bosporus Strait — a sparkling waterway that connects the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara and separates the two sides of the city.
You can take a ferry from Europe to Asia in under 30 minutes — and it’s all still Istanbul. That’s some serious globe-trotting without leaving the city!

🌤️ What’s the Weather Like in Turkey?
Turkey has a Mediterranean climate, which means warm, sunny summers and cool, rainy winters. In Istanbul, we enjoyed breezy spring days and sunshine-filled strolls through ancient neighborhoods. Over in the south, along the coast, people swim in the sea nearly all year round!
🧿 Treasures at the Grand Bazaar
Captain PillowBelly squeezed through the bustling Grand Bazaar, one of the oldest and largest covered markets in the world! There were thousands of shops selling glowing lanterns, hand-painted ceramics, silky scarves, and Turkish delight (which PillowBelly may have tasted… twice).
The smells of roasted nuts, fresh bread, and sizzling kebabs drifted through the air — it was like walking through a storybook filled with spices and color.
📚 Wrapping Up Our Week in Turkey
We learned so much in just one week:
- Istanbul bridges two continents, two cultures, and centuries of history.
- The Bosporus is both a river and a border — and full of life.
- Turkey’s climate changes from coast to coast — with beaches, mountains, and cities to explore.
- The Grand Bazaar is a living museum — and a fun place to get a souvenir!
We hope you loved discovering Turkey as much as we did. ✨
🎨 Color Your Own Adventure!
