🎶 1. Jamaica gave the world reggae music!
That smooth, bouncy beat that makes you feel like swaying? It started right here in Jamaica! A famous musician named Bob Marley helped share reggae with the world.

🐦 2. The national bird is called the Doctor Bird.
Why such a funny name? The Doctor Bird is a type of hummingbird found only in Jamaica! Its long tail feathers look like a doctor’s old-timey coat, and it can hover like a tiny helicopter.
🌋 3. Jamaica was made by volcanoes.
Long ago, hot lava and shifting earth formed the island. Today it’s full of green mountains, waterfalls, and even a few hot springs — like the magical ones near Milk River!
🌊 4. There’s a glowing lagoon!
At night, a place called Luminous Lagoon glows when you splash it! That’s because tiny living creatures called microorganisms light up when the water moves.
It’s like the ocean has fairy lights!
🌿 5. Jamaica’s motto is “Out of Many, One People.”
That means people in Jamaica come from many backgrounds — African, European, Indian, Chinese, and more — and they all live together as one big island family.
🍗 6. Jerk chicken gets its flavor from a special cooking style.
“Jerk” is a way of spicing and smoking meat. It’s hot, tasty, and smells amazing. Locals often cook it over wood fires using special pimento wood!
🛶 7. You can ride a raft made of bamboo.
Instead of a motorboat, try sitting on a bamboo raft and floating slowly down a quiet river. The Martha Brae River is one of the best places for this chill, nature-filled ride.
🐚 8. The island has over 50 public beaches!
Some beaches are calm and perfect for paddling. Others have big waves for surfers. You can even find seashells shaped like spirals and stars.
