Like most families, bedtime is one of the most cherished (and chaotic) times of our day. It’s the moment when everything slows down, pajamas go on, and the stories begin.

We didn’t set out to create a book series.
We just wanted to tell our kids one more story before sleep — something cozy, funny, and full of imagination. And somehow… Captain PillowBelly was born.

It All Started With a Koala and a Pillow

Captain PillowBelly wasn’t a carefully planned character.
He was a fluffy little koala who showed up one night during storytime — with a big belly (from snacks), a captain’s hat, and a pillow always tucked under his coat.
He sailed the world on his wooden ship, The Beluga, looking for naps, new friends, and new foods.

Our kids loved him.
Then they requested him.
Then they started asking, “Where is he going next?”

A Family Project Was Born

From there, it became a family ritual.

We began inventing more destinations — Japan, Mauritius, Italy, and beyond.
The girls helped us brainstorm what PillowBelly would eat, what he might wear, what animals or children he’d meet.
Sometimes they even acted out parts of the story (usually with snacks involved).

We started writing the stories down.
Then we added pictures.
Then we decided — why not share them with other families?

Made for Kids (and Parents Who Love to Travel)

We’ve lived and traveled across the world — and we wanted to capture the joy of those journeys in a way kids could understand.
Each story introduces a country through:• Local foods • Simple greetings • Friendly characters • Gentle bedtime adventures

They’re short. Cozy. And tested on real bedtime routines (including our own).
We now have over 80 stories ready to publish, with the first launching this month.
