It’s been about a month since we committed to blogging more consistently, and we’re proud to say that we’ve kept up the momentum! Posting daily has been a great exercise in creativity, focus, and discipline. However, despite our efforts to produce engaging content and share our love for Captain Pillowbelly, we haven’t seen much traffic coming to the blog yet.

Blogging with limited traffic and audience

While this might be a bit discouraging for some, we’ve learned a lot from the experience so far. And for us, this project was never about building a blog with massive traffic. It’s more of a hobby—a creative outlet with the added benefit of helping promote Captain Pillowbelly’s adventures. Let’s dive into a few reasons why we think traffic has been slow and the lessons we’ve learned along the way.

1. The Power (and Challenge) of Marketing

One of the biggest lessons we’ve learned is that creating content is only half the battle—getting people to find and engage with that content is another story. While we’ve been focused on writing quality posts, we haven’t yet put a lot of effort into promoting the blog itself. It’s becoming clearer that marketing is an essential part of building any online presence, and driving traffic requires strategic promotion across multiple platforms.

Lesson learned: Content creation is important, but content promotion is just as crucial. As we move forward, we’ll need to explore more ways to share our blog with a wider audience, whether through social media, SEO strategies, or partnerships with other bloggers and creators.

2. Consistency is Key, But It Takes Time

Consistency has been a big win for us. Sticking to a regular posting schedule has made the process of blogging feel more natural, and we’ve built a good routine for generating content. But if there’s one thing we’ve learned from this, it’s that building an audience takes time—especially when starting from scratch. Even with daily posts, it can be months before a blog starts to gain traction, and patience is key.

Lesson learned: While consistent posting is important for building a solid foundation, we also need to remind ourselves that growing an audience takes time. Patience and persistence are essential parts of the process.

3. Finding the Right Audience

Another factor we’ve considered is that finding the right audience for our content might take some experimenting. The Captain Pillowbelly stories are aimed at families and children, and while our blog posts cover a range of topics, we’re still figuring out how to attract the right readers. It’s a learning process, and we’re thinking about how to refine our topics to better align with what our ideal audience is searching for.

Lesson learned: Finding the right audience requires testing and refining our content strategy. We’re starting to explore what resonates best with readers and how to tailor our posts accordingly.

4. It’s Still a Hobby at Heart

Even though we haven’t seen a big uptick in traffic yet, it’s important to remember why we started this blog in the first place. For us, it’s about the joy of creating and sharing Captain Pillowbelly’s world with others. This blog is a passion project, and while we’d love for more people to read our posts, we’re ultimately doing this for the fun of it. If along the way we manage to introduce Captain Pillowbelly to more families, that’s an added bonus!
